“Easy Now” the discreet sign advises you as you meander up the driveway, negotiating the gentle bumps as you approach the Herb House Spa. Those two little words really summed up my spa experience at the laid-back, but luxurious Lime Wood Hotel in the New Forest, Hampshire. The vibe of the place is tranquil and relaxed. Emphasis is on the holistic treatments, harmonised with the delectable Raw and Cured cafe that serves breakfast, lunches and snacks. There is a huge clue in the name too, as not only does the spa posess a living herb roof , offering areas for relaxing on a sun-lounger, for yoga or an alfresco work out, but the treatment products have been selected for their natural ingredients and therapeutic properties.

Hydropool jets

I was keen to experience the Tri-Dosha brand, established in 2005 by Aruveydic expert Sunita Passi. Having indulged in aruveydic teatments in Southern India and the Maldives I was familiar with the Aruveydic concept that we all have a ‘dosha’  or body type, whether it is vata, pitta or kapha. My therapist Morag, of soothing voice and deft massaging fingers, soon assured me that I was ‘vata’ and selected the products accordingly. The treatment rooms are decorated in calming bleached woods, there is a tranquil hush within the spa area and unlike other upmarket spas the treatment rooms really do cocoon you from the outside world. My ‘Holistic Glow’ facial commenced with the obligitory cleanse, then an energy boosting massage and scrub revitalised my polluted London skin whilst a head massage sent me off to another plane. A mask of sandalwood was applied and Morag set to work massaging my feet and legs before completing the Aruveydic experience with a massaging mosituriser for my face and neck.

Juices and Smoothies, Raw & Cured

I’m a strong believer that a spa weekend should include a detox and recharge from within and it at Raw & Cured you can truly nourish your soul and recharge your inner glow. Their grazing menu includes healthy and raw wraps made with seaweed Nori, dehydrated vegetable crisps, seasonal salads abundant with herbs picked fresh from the roof and sharing boards with home cured charcuterie from the Smokehouse in the hotel grounds. Complemented by immune boosting juices, smoothies and caffeine free teas, the team at Raw & Cured are informative and full of advice to tailor-make something to your own personal needs. If you are not feeling quite so virtuous, you could always order a cheeky English wine or fizz by the glass or bottle!
