Chewton Glen Treehouse

If you have ever felt the need to escape London for a few days and totally switch off, look no further than New Milton in Hampshire, just a short jaunt down the M3. Nestled on stilts amongst the treetops and overlooking a small stream that winds down towards the sea, the Treehouses at Chewton Glen offer truly luxurious suite accommodation within the grounds of this quintessential country house hotel on the edge of the New Forest.

Waking to the soothing sound of birdcall on a sun-kissed spring morning I couldn’t  help thinking that this is the life! In keeping with the nature all around us, our suite was decorated in calming tones of creams and natural woods, tweeds and the all important crisp white bed linens. Floor to ceiling panoramic windows flooded the suite with daylight and tree branches tapped gently on the loft windows above. Artworks themed with birds and trees decorated the walls and even the L’Occitane soaps in the bathrooms were leaf shaped. Further comforts included the log burning stove, a Delonghi coffee machine any top barista would be proud to own and a kitchenette complete with complimentary nibbles such as organic chocolate bars and freshly baked cookies and cakes. For me, the abundance of Ren toiletries were enough to send me into a sensory spin. The un-seasonally warm weather encouraged us to really make the most of the solitude on our teak wrap-around balcony, oscillating between enjoying the hot-tub under the stars pre-dinner and to read the weekend papers reclined on the loungers in the dappled afternoon sun. On our final morning we ate breakfast outside, lingering over our food wishing that time would slow down whilst watching a couple of pheasants strutting through the woods below.

We had booked for two nights in a luxury Treehouse Loft suite and our package included breakfast and dinner delivered via a ‘secret hatch’ to our suite in hampers. Alternatively we could have opted for a credit towards dinner in Vetiver Restaurant within the hotel, but for us, this weekend was all about peace and quiet, relaxation and recharging. The toughest decision all weekend was choosing dinner from the hamper menu…to tempt you have a peek at the Hamper Menu

Strolling through the woods to the beach was as active as it got, but if we’d had the inclination we could have enjoyed the outdoor or indoor tennis courts, a game of croquet on the lawn or a session in the fully equipped gym. However, we did manage a visit to Chewton Glen’s award winning Spa, making the most of the hydrotherapy pools where the powerful jets and massaging bubbles eased the stresses from our bones. Followed by an Oxygen Facial, this indulgent treat completed my relaxing day.

Sophie suggests…
